CQWW RTTY, 27. September 2003

CQWW RTTY did not turn out as I had wished. The electric fence was still there which kept the cows away from the shack. I expected much QRM and bad copy of RTTY signals when the few 1000 volts were discarded on the wire. In the end it was not too bad.

Unfortunately my K2 showed some issues and I had trouble working stations. Even loud ones. After a while I figured out I'm not transceive! I was 170Hz off QRG ... and I don't know what caused it yet.

Even with RIT on (now transmitting on QRG) I couldn't get any decent runs. Therefore, I played on 40m a bit and was surprised being called by JAs while TXing with 50W only. West Coast was also loud on 15 and 20m.

After five hours I called it a day and packed up. Next RTTY contest I'll try my Omni VI+ instead and save the K2 for CW.
