IARU HF World Championship, 12.-13. July 2003HB9CZF - SOAB LP
IARU Contest was my first step into the world of SO2R. Writelog supports it and instead of further developing my audio box I ordered the W5XD/K5DJ Multi-Keyer. The week before the contest I set everything up in my flat. The power plug's diameter is 4mm instead of 3mm and a new powercable had to be soldered. Another cable was needed for the CW keying line. A standard stereo 3.5mm cable does not work because the Multi-Keyer keys between tip and ring and not against GND. The setup was easy and worked after 5 minutes. Unfortunately my notebook has only one COM interface and therefore the Omni-VI+ couldn't be remote controlled. The setup in the shack was not very ergonimical but my main task was to get my hands on SO2R and not winning. The arrow keys switched between the K2 and TT. CTRL-X latched the audio while the other rig is transmitting. Now I only have to play with the %X command in the CW messages. I couldn't switch to the second rig while the first one was transmitting. Since both TRX had 100W max I had no need for external filters. I only witnessed the harmonics on the higher bands, but they were not too strong. Now to the contest. Highlight was EM1U on AN-006. On a almost dead 10m band I heard EM1U and EM5HQ both calling CQ on the same (!) QRG. Beaming South brought EM1U und towards East EM5HQ into my log. Sunday morning W6er were booming in. 5 Band QSOs were achieved with DA0HQ, EM5HQ, ES9A, OH2HQ, PA6HQ, R7HQ, SN0HQ, T90HQ, YL4HQ, and YR0HW. Claimed Score QSO PTS ZN HQ
