CQ/RJ WPX RTTY Contest, 8.-9. February 2003

Rig: K2 with 100W; Ant: 3el Yagi for 10m, 15m, and 20m and 41m LW for 40 and 80m.
RTTY: MMTTY Ver. 1.63
This was my second RTTY contest. As preparation I calibrated the filters of my K2 for RTTY. FL1 = 2.4kHz, FL2 = 1kHz, FL3 = 500Hz and FL4 = 300Hz. During the contest I used the 500Hz filter most of the time and the 300Hz only in heavy QRM. On 10 and 15m I worked normal RTTY mode and for the lower band I had to switch to RevRTTY and Rev in MMTTY to reverse back. The K2 swaps the sidebands below 15m and the filters could not be moved to the 2kHz range on the lower bands. But it worked out on Reverse-Reverse.
Before I could even start the contest I had to get to my shack. The paved road ends at the farm house and the remaining 300m is gravel. Due to the massive snowfall this road was not cleared and I had to park my car just in front of a big pile of snow. Now standing there with a big powersupply in my car, K2, KPA100, PC, food, ... Luckily my father helped out and brought a sledge with him.

For RTTY I used MMTTY 1.63 again. A plain version and no help from something like TRLog (which I use in every CW contest). Especially in WPX it can be a challenge to figure out where these fancy prefixes are coming from :-)
The conds on the bands were good and after the higher bands closed I concentraded on 40m. I didn't think I could work JA and VK on 40m! The unfortunate thing with RTTY is you have to rely on the software and you can't try to listen a bit harder ...
Apart from that big surprises were being called by T77CD on 10m and the big signal of KH7X on 15 and 20m.
After the contest - I spent about 17 hours - I had to figure out how to score my 604 QSO's. MMTTY produces an ADIF file which I converted with a tool by KA5WWS to a TRLog-file, scorred manually each QSO, replaced all RTTY by CW and off we went. Well, it worked out but for the future I have to invest probably into Writelog.
