Russian DX Contest, 20.-21. March 2004HB9CZF - SOAB LP CWMy initial idea was to use RDXC as dry-run for the Helvetia Contest in April. Therefore, I planned to climb the tower and install a second LW perpendicular to the existing LW. The sun was shining, temp was fine but high winds (between 50 and 100 km/h) held me off. My rig was TenTec Omni VI+ connected to the 3 band beam and the K2/100 was hooked up to the LW for 40 and 80m. Again I had no antenna for 160m. Just before the contest I upgrade Writelog to the latest version (10.46G) and read on the discussion list that some Oblast abbreviations changed. During the contest I had a few conflicts but I logged what Writelog proposed and put a note down what I received. After the contest I double checked and everything was fine. I also had 2 non-QSO (3B9C for a new country and IOTA and SU9BN) where I added a "0" as exchange. I had hoped to find R1FJ on Franz Josef Land but never heard them all weekend. Condx were not bad for the amount of sunspots. 10m was open at the beginning for a bit and on Sunday I head YI9ZF with a nice signal but no activity. 9V1YC was also audible on 10m on Sunday but my 100W were not enough to get James attention. 40m was very noise Saturday night and I stayed longer on 20m. In an almost dead band I've got replies from ZL4HH, ZL1TM and 9M2/GM4YXI with S5 signals. The ZLs were much weaker Sunday morning. 80m was quiet and easy to listen. Sunday morning Manfred, DJ5MW, needed HB as a multiplier and we QSO/QSYed on 5 bands. Even with a 5:1 SWR on 160m we managed a short exchange :-) Overall RDXC was fun again with lots of activity. I was somehow surprised to work 117 UA9er. Only UA3 with 148 QSOs was higher. All other prefixes brought lower QSO counts. Furthermore, the guys behind RDXC run an excellent webpage with loads of background info on the contest! Cu in 2005.
