Helvetia Contest, 26 - 27 April 2008
HB2008A - MOAB CW
Helvetia Contest coincided with the start of the Euro 2008 special callsigns. A few weeks before the contest I was able to reserve the HB2008A clubcall of USKA. My plan was to air it on CW only and let as many people work me. Overall the pile-ups were great and multipliers down - I was calling CQ only. Furthermore, the worst conds ever were experienced in this Helvetia Contest.
With the start of the contest the farmer sprayed liquid manure on the field adjacent to the shack. Fortunately the smell vanished soon ... First full-house Canton was SH and on Sunday morning all HB stations were very very weak on 40m. K3 worked flawlessly and the "AFX" feature was a real pleasure to listen to the huge pile-ups. On the other hand I have to fine-tune the AGC. Fast QSB and weak signals lets disapear dits if you do not listen carefully.
On Sunday morning I worked a string of JA on 20m, most of their signal were ESP and the return report was either 001 or nothing. They all wanted to work the HB2008 special call sign.
After 13h 46' a total of 1001 QSO were in the log and called it a day.
