Helvetia Contest, 25 - 26 April 2009

HE8CZF - SOAB CW

HE8CZF is a special call sign for HB9CZF to celebrate the 80th anniversary of Union of Swiss Short Wave Amateurs (USKA). I entered this contest in my favourite section SOAB CW and instead of using SO2R I used only the K3 plus DX-Cluster and CW-Skimmer. Compared to past years the quality of DX-Cluster spots improved significantly. CW-Skimmer could only do its task during my RX-periods and added a few callsigns into the bandmap especially on the low bands. For the first time I moved the 160m antenna to the 2nd tower which was extended by the old Telrex-boom. Furthermore the feeder was shortened to 20m.

In order to simplify the routing of the feeder the length was shortened to 20m. Dial readings for 1830kHz were L = 10 and C = 40 with an SWR of 1.0:1. Readings for 25m feeder were L = 9 and C = 33 with an SWR of 1.2:1. This antenna was only used on 160m.
DSC_9290w.jpg (32617 bytes) The LC-tuner for the 40/80m longwire experienced some contact problems on the upper section of the L. I successfully cleaned it with silicon grease.

After 16h 21' a total of 932 QSO were in the log and called it a day. That was enough to win this contest :-)

Rig: K3 & Henry PA, DX-Cluster and CW-Skimmer
Ant: 3el SteppIR, 41m LW for 40/80m and 2x41m Doublet for 160m
